Our approach
Our Approach to Addiction Treatment
Addiction is a treatable condition. At Skypoint Recovery, we use evidence-based practices and tailor every part of treatment to your needs, whatever your situation.
Personalized treatment plans
No two experiences with addiction are the same, so no two treatment plans should be either. Your plan begins with your own needs and goals.
During your assessment, our team learns about your substance use, mental health, physical health, relationships, and responsibilities at work and home. Together, we use that picture to choose the right level of care and the therapies that fit you. As you make progress, we revisit the plan and adjust it.
Whole-person, holistic care
Treating the physical and psychological sides of addiction is essential, but it is not enough on its own. Recovery also involves your emotional health, your relationships, and your sense of purpose.
Our programs include therapies and activities that help you build practical coping skills. Depending on your program, mindfulness, meditation, yoga, or art may be part of your care alongside counseling, life skills work, and peer support.
Evidence-based practices
We rely on well-established therapeutic approaches that are widely used in addiction and mental health treatment. These include:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): Helps you notice and change the thought patterns and behaviors that feed substance use.
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): Teaches skills for managing strong emotions, tolerating distress, and improving relationships.
- Motivational enhancement therapy (MET): Helps you explore your own reasons for change and strengthen your commitment to it.
Your plan may also include individual and group therapy, family therapy, EMDR, relapse prevention, and medication-assisted treatment when it is clinically appropriate.
A full continuum of care
Recovery rarely happens in a single step, so we offer care that can follow you through each stage:
- Partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care: Structured treatment in Richmond while you live at home or in recovery housing.
- Outpatient care: Ongoing therapy that helps you keep your progress as you return to daily life.
- Recovery housing: Sober living and transitional housing that offer structure and support as you move toward independent living.
- Aftercare planning: Resources, community connections, and relapse prevention strategies for life after your program.
If you need medical detox or inpatient treatment first, we arrange it through partner facilities and continue your care when you return.
